Which putting grips win the most on Tour + Bethpage Black's Feisty Little Brother

Happy Friday! If you haven’t already, clear your weekend schedule so that you can binge watch season 2 of Full Swing on Netflix, which dropped on Wednesday. And if you’re already a fan, the show’s creator (Chad Mumm) has more plans for golf entertainment. In partnership with the PGA Tour, Mumm is starting a new entertainment-focused venture called “Pro Shop” that will have deep access to players, tour highlights and archived footage. Should be fun to see what they cook up.

TIPS & DRILLS
Lee Trevino’s “Wide & Short” Putting System
Learn how to confidently make those dreaded 3-4 foot par putts
To Recap…

If you’re waiting for someone to give you the 3-foot gimme, you may as well have already missed the putt. To make more short putts…

-STEP 1: Don’t wait around hoping for someone to say, “That’s good.” Mentally commit to stepping up and making the putt regardless of whether anyone says the magic words.
-STEP 2: Widen your feet and place the ball in the middle of your stance.
-STEP 3: A long backswing encourages deceleration so shorten your backswing and end with an abbreviated follow through.

Be confident! A lack of conviction has missed more putts than any putting technique. If you miss, put it behind you and move on to the next hole.

COURSES
We all know Bethpage Black, but Bethpage Red is a Top 10 Value Course in America

Bethpage Red
Farmingdale, NY

We’ve highlighted more than a few $300+ courses recently, so let’s talk value. And there’s no better value than the Bethpage State Park Golf Courses. Just about everyone knows A.W. Tillinghast’s Black course, the site of numerous majors including Tiger’s “People’s [US] Open” win over Phil in 2002 and the host site for the 2025 Ryder Cup. But few out-of-towners are familiar with the Red course, which really holds it’s own. Tom Doak once said, “Had the Black course never been built, the Red… might have received similar acclaim.” Should you have a chance to play it, pull out the ole’ boomerang. It’s filled with sharp doglegs and you may need to do some slingin.’

STATISTICS
Stat of the Day: The Putting Grips that Won the Most on Tour Last Year
presented by…

The Stat: The Conventional putting grip is still the dominant style on tour, winning more than 2 out of every 3 tournaments in 2022-2023.

The Takeaway: Try one or try them all… Whatever feels comfortable to you, just commit to it for an entire season. The flip flopping and uncertainty in your mind will cost you more strokes than the putting grip itself.
