Play Ludvig Aberg's Sweet College Course for < $50! + If you can slow pitch a softball, you already know this move

Hope everyone enjoyed the Players Championship over the weekend. It was a brutal lip out for Wyndham Clark on 18 as he attempted to tie Scottie Scheffler for the lead, but nice to see some finishing hole drama on the PGA Tour. It’s been a while.

Any Harry Potter fans out there? Popular golf apparel brand Manors Golf created an awesome post that used AI to imagine what Hogwarts might look like if it were a golf school. I’d certainly play there. Take a peak HERE.

In today’s newsletter…

✅ TIPS & DRILLS: Chipping doesn’t have to be difficult. In fact, if you’ve ever slow pitched a softball, you already know the correct motion. Popular golf content creator Darin de Lelys demonstrates.

To Recap…

Do you remember the movie “Dodgeball” where Patches O’Houlihan says “If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball.” Well, we’ve got a similarly memorable line for you to commit to memory. If you can toss a ball (underhand), you can chip. Here’s the drill:

-STEP 1: Just like you’re slow pitching a softball, practice tossing a few golf balls underhand on the practice green and visualize transferring the same feeling to the golf swing.
-STEP 2: Don’t let your rear shoulder turn too quickly around your body. As you turn, move your shoulder down and keep the palm of your hand under the ball.
-STEP 3: Try a few wedge shots and rotate around your core, finishing with your chest facing the target and your club out in front of your chest.

If you ever find yourself stabbing at the ball or abruptly stopping your chipping motion just after contact, just go back to visualizing the underhand toss.

COURSES
The #19 Best Value Course in America
Even West Texas offers rolling hills and links style golf if you move enough dirt

Rawls Course @ Texas Tech
Lubbock, TX

Ludvig Aberg is the PGA Tour’s hottest young golfer, and the course where he cut his teeth in college might be inexpensive (relatively), but it’s no pushover. Tom Doak designed the Rawls Course at Texas Tech as his 1st project after completing Pacific Dunes (at Bandon Dunes Resort). But making a championship course in the flat windy terrain of West Texas isn’t the easiest task. 1.3 million yards of topsoil had to be moved to create the rolling hills that make up the course’s undulant terrain.

Rates: $48-$68 on weekdays, $79-$91 on weekends

STATISTICS
Stat of the Day: The Effect of New Grips On Golf Performance
presented by…

The Stat: If you are still playing with original grips from those sticks you purchased back in 2019, it’s costing you 2.3 mph in average ball speed and 2.3 yards in average carry distance.

The Takeaway: Obviously it depends on how frequently you play, but even if you play just 15-20 times per year, it’s probably worth it for you to change your grips annually.

One additional stat that’s missing from this graphic- shot dispersion on both the x-axis & y-axis decreases by 10-11% with new grips. Newer grips = better shots!
