Play the 37th Best Public in America for FREE + Just a Little Cardboard Between You and Straighter Drives

Plus, Stats Behind the Booming Simulator Industry

Happy Tuesday all- It finally happened. Xander broke the “best player without a major” moniker on Sunday at Valhalla. He had five top 5 finishes and two runner-up finishes in majors prior, so he now hands the baton to Will Zalatoris. He’s just 27 years old and has been clawing his way back from a nasty back injury, but he has six Top-8 finishes in majors and 3 runner-up finishes. It’s coming, but when?

TIPS & DRILLS
A Cardboard Box Drill for Straighter Drives
2022 US Open Champ Matt Fitzpatrick doesn’t always need fancy gadgets
To Recap…

During his warm ups at the Masters, Matt Fitzpatrick was seen using a cardboard club box set-up parallel to his feet (and ball target line). Using this simple prop may not work for everyone as all swings are different, but it will certainly help if…

-A …your swing path is coming too far from the inside. If you struggle with a big sweeping draw or a push fade, you’ll likely hit the box on your downswing before you get to the golf ball.
-B …your swing path is over-the-top (i.e. outside to inside). If this is the case, you will hit the box after you make contact with the ball, likely resulting in a pull hook or a slice. Taking the club down the line will require some reps, but it will absolutely straighten you out over time.

-TIP #1: You do not need to use a cardboard club box for this drill. Even a couple towels folded length-wise and stacked on top of each other will do.
-TIP #2: This drill works with irons as well! But on that note, whether using an iron or a wood, you may need to move the box (or alternate prop) further away from the ball to find the distance that works for you.

COURSES
Play the 37th Best Public in the US for Free
Host of the 2025 US Senior Men’s Open

The Broadmoor Golf Club
Colorado Springs, CO

You know what they say- nothing in life is free. Well, there’s one course that really, truly, assuredly can be played totally FREE. And the most incredible part is that it’s a widely acclaimed major championship course. The Broadmoor Golf Club East in Colorado Springs, CO is set to host the 2025 US Senior Open (and previously hosted in 2018). It currently sits at 37th on Golf Digest’s list of the Greatest Public Courses in America.

And from November 10th - April 3rd, you can actually play the course for free… well, a slightly adapted version (sorry for the rug pull). The course takes several holes from both the east and west courses to create a composite 9-hole track that is still sure to impress. Of course, you do need to be staying at the resort to play, but how often do you get to play even a single hole from a championship course at no additional charge? We may not sign-up for a round in January, but in early November or in late March, why not take a flyer?

Fun Fact: Jack Nicklaus won his first US Amateur tournament in 1959 at the Broadmoor

Rates: Composite 9-hole course plays for FREE from November 10 - April 3. $130 - $335 during peak season (must be staying at the resort)

STATISTICS
Stat of the Day: The Booming Golf Simulator Industry
presented by…

The Stat: The Golf Simulator Industry is expected to grow at 8.6% (compound annual growth rate) through 2030, whereas the golf equipment market is only expected to grow at 5.0% during that same time.

The Takeaway: We all want that sweet home simulator set-up in our spare bedroom or garage. And as the technology gets better, the cost of an affordable home set-up will continue to decrease, making it more accessible and less stigmatized as a category only reserved for the elite. In Korea, simulators are already the norm, as more than 50% of Korean golfers “use or mainly use simulators to practice golf.” A simulator in every home… just imagine it.

P.S. If you want more in-depth analysis of the simulator industry, check out THIS great article from Perfect Putt, which breaks down the business of golf each week.
