Now back to our regularly scheduled programming…

Happy Tuesday all- For a lot of you, this is the first week back in the office for the new year, which has us thinking - new year, new goals! Without fail, every golfer starts the year hoping to hit more fairways, compress the ball, sink more putts, hit it farther, achieve a Scratch handicap (whoa hang on, let’s not get TOO carried away here). But don’t worry, we’ve got a repository full of great tips and drills to bring you in 2025.

And what better place to start those new year improvements than a drill used by the #1 player in the world - Scottie Scheffler. More below…

To Recap…

Getting "laid off” is always a bad thing, whether in life or in your golf swing (i.e too flat at the top). And coming across the line at the top of your swing is equally bad (i.e. too steep). With this quick tee drill, you’ll get in a great position at the top and hit straighter shots guaranteed. Just grab a tee and your favorite iron:

-STEP 1: Place an alignment stick on the ground next to your ball. Then place a tee in the hole at the butt end of your grip. Make sure it’s sticking out a couple of inches.
NOTE: You don’t truly need a tee for this drill, but it will act as a visual cue to help your brain grasp the concept.
-STEP 2: As you take the club back to about waist height, try to ensure the tee is pointing back at your belt buckle.
-STEP 3: When you’re about ½ to ¾ of the way to the top of your swing, notice where the tee is pointed- it should be pointed directly at that alignment stick.
-STEP 4: Continue your backswing and stop at the top. At this point, the tee should be pointed directly behind you in the opposite direction of the target. If it points too far in front, it means you are “laid off.” And if it points too far behind you, it means that you are too far “over the top.”

PRO TIP: It is really easy for your swing plane to fall out of position at any time, so make sure you are checking your positions throughout your swing. After all, if it’s good enough for World #1 Scottie Scheffler, it’s certainly good enough for us mortals.
