Tuesday Quick Tip: How Tony Finau Fixed His Slice!
Plus, in Trivia: Which President played the most rounds of golf while in office?
Happy Tuesday everyone! For those that have access to indoor golf simulators and have been working on their swings all winter, we applaud your dedication. For the rest of us that have been anxiously awaiting warmer weather, just know that each passing day brings us closer to Spring. Regardless, we can all swing a club indoors, so why not get started on eliminating that slice before it pops up and plagues you for another season? In today’s quick tip, Tony Finau teaches us how he got rid of his big slice and kept the ball in play more often off the tee…

How Tony Finau Fixed His Slice!
Simple fixes to your set-up can go a long way, even for Tour Pros
To Recap…
Everyone knows Tony Finau can hit the ball FAR - the man casually hits 205 mph ball speed while goofing around with his buddies on a Tuesday. But he hasn’t always been the straightest off the tee. In this video, Tony talks us through the importance of set-up to promote a more stable backswing and a straighter path through the ball:
STEP 1: Strengthening your grip (i.e. moving your trail hand more underneath the grip rather than on top) can help get your club face more square at impact. A good check here is to look at how your forearms are aligned - if your rear forearm is higher than your front arm at address, your rear hand is likely too far on top and can be lowered more easily via a stronger grip.
STEP 2: Now that your rear forearm is more in line with your front arm, it will be a lot easier to start the backswing “straight back” rather than pushing it to the outside. Once your forearms are lined up, it will be far easier to swing down that line, resulting in more straight drives.
PRO TIP: Swing set-ups tend to morph over time. For example, if you hit a couple slices in a row, your brain may start to auto-correct your body position without you even knowing it.
And if your shoulders or arms are aligned to the left at set-up, it is almost impossible to swing to the right without making a lot of compensations. So be sure to film or photograph yourself from time to time to verify your set-up hasn’t shifted unknowingly.
