Use This “Step Drill” To Load Into Your Trail Side
Xander Schauffele explains the importance of loading during the backswing
To Recap…

There’s no denying that Xander Schauffele is one of the best ball strikers on the PGA Tour. He makes it look effortless, and there are a LOT of things working in his favor. Here’s how he loads into his trail side in the backswing to create a repeatable, powerful swing:

-STEP 1: When addressing the ball, bring your front foot back to your trail foot so they are together.
-STEP 2: Take your backswing and feel your weight load into your back foot. To get more specific, you should feel your weight into the inside of your trail foot (think like a baseball pitcher on the mound). If you were to load onto the outside of your foot, you’d actually lose your balance and fall out of sync.
-STEP 3: On your downswing, step your lead foot forward and swing through, transferring your weight to your lead heel. The majority of your weight should be on your front heel at the end of your swing.

PRO TIP: A great way to check if you are transferring your weight to your front side is to lift your trail foot off the ground after impact. You should be able to lift your trail leg off the ground without losing your balance after completing your swing.
