Tuesday Quick Tip: Swing Two Clubs to Learn Swing Changes in Half The Time!

Plus, in Trivia: Who has the lowest 72 hole score in PGA Tour history?

Happy Tuesday- Scottie Scheffler didn’t just re-emerge in the winners circle this past weekend, but he did it by shooting 31 UNDER PAR over four days! He made 35 birdies over four rounds of golf…most of us haven’t even made 35 birdies this YEAR! Even if you took the best round from each day from a competitor and totaled those 4 individual rounds, Scottie still would have beaten the field by 2 strokes… absolutely absurd.

It was an impressive feat, and it was due to some minor changes that he made to become more consistent off the tee. As amateurs, we generally don’t have the time Scottie has to practice, so today we’ve got a trick to speed the process up and ensure swing changes sink in faster. You’ll be on track to make 35 birdies in a weekend of golf just like Scottie!

Let’s dial it in!

TIPS & DRILLS
Double the Club to Double the Results
@cmccormickgolf shows us a way to speed up swing changes
To Recap…

Changing your swing is hard. Like, really REALLY hard. Not only are different motions and positions uncomfortable to get into, it’s also really difficult to voluntarily hit the ball worse while you are changing in order to (hopefully) improve over the long run. This trick from Cameron McCormick (swing coach for Jordan Spieth) shows us how to ingrain position changes faster so that you can play better golf sooner!

STEP #1: Grab a short-mid iron (an 8 or a 9 iron would be best here).
STEP #2: Now grab the club that is right next to it so the length of club is as similar as possible. For example, if you chose the 9 iron first, grab the 8 iron next to it so the length is nearly the same.
STEP #3: Whatever you are working on - wrist angles, position at the top, or anything within your backswing or follow through - repeat these motions with both clubs in hand. The heavy weight of both clubs together will force your body to emphasize the positions and ingrain them quicker.
STEP #4: After 10 minutes of rehearsing these positions with two clubs, take one away and start to rehearse them with the single club. Notice that it is easier and feels more solid due to the lighter weight by comparison.

PRO TIP: When warming up for a round, or even in between shots, this is a great drill to do for a few seconds to really ingrain swing feels before you go play or take your next shot - just don’t sit in the fairway and do the double-club drill for 10 minutes and ruin pace of play!
