Happy Tuesday- So you want to bomb it like the pros, eh? No problem, just keep your head behind the ball and swing hard… Ok small problem, when you do try to bomb it, you frequently veer off from your target line. So let’s fix that. Today we’ve got a 2-part drill that will help you launch your drives off the tee and keep the ball in play. ↓↓↓
Let’s jump in!
DRIVING
Use the “Upper Cut” + “Elbow Pit” Triggers for More Consistent Drives
As demonstrated by popular online coach Giles Gill
If you want to bomb it and keep the ball in play, you absolutely MUST keep your head behind the ball at impact with the driver. And you can’t let that chicken wing elbow fold. Here’s how to accomplish exactly that:
-STEP 1: Place your lead arm on top of the club and position the club vertical relative to the ground.
-STEP 2: With your free trail arm, practice upper-cut punches through the impact zone, going under your lead arm and then up to the sky.
-STEP 3: Now that you have motion ingrained, take your normal set-up with the driver, and make sure your lead arm elbow pit is pointed up to the sky.
-STEP 4: Take a few more practice swings and be sure to finish through the impact zone with your arms fully extended and your lead arm elbow pit still pointed to the sky.
PRO TIP: If you struggle with duck-hooks or left misses off the tee in general, locking your lead arm elbow in this position (fully extended) is a bit of a cheat code, as it prevents you from flipping your wrists through impact, forcing you to rely on body turn to generate speed.
